LeaveMetric Bill Laurie, one of the parking

industry’s best-known figures, left his position at Metric Parking at the end ofApril. Laurie, 58, who is in his eighth

year as Metric’s Sales and Marketing Director, retained his directorship for the remainder of the year and will con- tinue to overseeMetric’s Sales Depart- ment in a part-time capacity. One of Laurie’s main responsibili-

ties will be to provide support for Richard Boultbee, who was recently appointedMetric’s UK Sales andMar- ketingManager. Of his reasons for leaving his full-

time post, Laurie said, “I have simply found the commute of 240 miles a day from Shropshire to Wiltshire too exhausting and particularly difficult during the winter months. Due to changing traffic patterns and conges- tion on the roads the journey ... has becomemuchmore difficult,” he said. “When I first started, the job was

made easier by inheriting a very strong and experienced sales team with a tremendous team spirit. We are fortu- nate to still have that strength in depth,” Laurie said, “and I am there- fore delighted to continue working with the sales team, albeit on a consul- tancy basis.” Metric’s Managing Director

Jochen Oehmen said, “I am delighted Bill is continuing to work withMetric, albeit in a part-time role, and we shall continue to benefit from his sound advice and depth of experience.” Traffex/Parkex, April 21-23 in

Birmingham, UK, was the ideal venue for Laurie to say his farewells to friends and colleagues within the park- ing industry.
