INDULGENCES mixology Located in the heart of gay L.A., Fiesta Cantina offers a little something for everyone.

Known especially for their cheap drinks, Fiesta offers a two-for-one special from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. to midnight. This is the perfect place to get your buzz on before heading out to get your groove on. Fiesta Cantina is one of the few places in WeHo without the gay snobbery. Set in a relaxed environment, Fiesta offers tasty menu items as well as tasty servers and staff! Scott Shenefelt is a multifaceted, sexy bartender serving up a wild time at Fiesta. We sat down with Scott for a little Q & A session. Here’s what he had to say:

The Rage Monthly: How long have you been bartending and how did you discover a career in bartending? Scott Shenefelt: I have been bartending at Fiesta Cantina for three years, although I

have been there for seven. I started off as a server and moved my way up to bartender. I first discovered a career at Fiesta Cantina when I was drinking and complaining about my job at another bar down in Long Beach. All of the sudden I felt tapping on my shoulder. I turned around and a crazy looking guy with long blond hair said, “you start tomorrow,” I replied, “Who the hell are you?” He informed me that he was the general manager at Cantina. He continued, “I was listening to you bitch about your job and I want you to work for me, you sound like you actually have a brain in your head.” So I started the next day. That day just happened to be pride and I outsold the entire staff. After Pride the G. M. came up to me and said “I’m so happy I hired you, you had the most sales in one night ever”.

Rage: Are you from L.A.? If not, where are you from and how does it compare to L.A. Scott: I’m originally from Chicago, IL. I moved to L.A. about seven years ago. L.A. has

a ton to offer; the weather, it’s close to Vegas, Disneyland, skiing, the beach, the list could go on forever. Unfortunately I think the people in L.A. leave a lot to be desired. In Chicago everyone looks out for one another. I think it’s partly because of the horrible weather, everyone just feels sorry for everyone else and are always willing to give a helping hand. In L.A. it’s more every man for himself. I miss the closeness that people in Chicago offered, but I would never give up the L.A. sun to go back.

Rage: What is the best part about your job bartending at Fiesta? Scott: The staff. We are like a family and I couldn’t imagine life without them.

Rage: When and where can our readers find you in L.A.? Scott: I work five days a week, two days (Sunday and Monday) and three nights (Thursday thru Saturday).

Rage: What are some of the things you enjoy doing when you’re not working? Scott: I own a dance company, clubposers.com. Club Posers takes a lot of my free

time, but I love every minute of it. When I’m not at fiesta or working on Posers I enjoy movies, hiking, working out, reading, the beach, and Disneyland; I seriously go like once a week.

Rage: Do you have any “specialty cocktails” that you’d like to mention? Scott: I do have a specialty drink, it’s called the ThunderSnow, which in gay terms means farting and cumming at the same time, but it was also a great name for a drink. I’d tell you the ingredients but then it wouldn’t be a secret and I wouldn’t be the only one that could make it for you.

Rage: If you were a cocktail, what would you be and why? Scott: I wouldn’t be a cocktail; I’d be a shot of Jack, because that’s me, short and

to the point.

Rage: What words would your friends use to describe you? Scott: Sarcastic, funny, honest, kind and sometimes possibly jackass, but only

64 RAGE monthly | JANUARY 2011 sometimes.

Rage: For those who haven’t been to Fiesta Cantina in WeHo, what would you say they have been missing out on? Scott: Cheap ass drinks and cool ass people, plain and simple.

Rage: What are some weekly events that our readers should hit up at Fiesta Cantina? Scott: Easy—KARAOKE!! Every Wednesday is karaoke at Fiesta and it is OFF THE WALL.

You never know what you’re gonna get. We’ve had Adam Lambert come in and sing, the cast of Wicked, some one-hit wonders, and just some great ordinary people with some amazing pipes. Karaoke Kenny runs the show and he does an amazing job. I’ve never been to karaoke where the host will do anything in his power to make you happy AND make you look good.
