Acupuncture is also helpful as it calms the nervous system and brings mental clarity and calm. Acupuncture also has a self-regulatory effect on the nervous system, hormones and the immune system and body as a whole. One of my clinical discoveries is

that while acupuncture alone may help patients with thyroid disorders (about 25%), when combined with specific emotional balance techniques, diet and herbal medicine, the results can be phenomenal.

My hope is that if Integrated Chi- nese medicine is incorporated into the health care system, the continued use of surgical thyroidectomy and iodine-ir- radiation of the thyroid gland to remove thyroid activity in hyperthyroid patients may become a last resort rather than a standard method of therapy. I believe my approach - which seeks to look at the real cause of the thyroid problem - can have far reaching effects to not only the diagnosis of hypo or hyper-thyroid- ism but can help keep you healthy and flourishing for a lifetime.
