Alarm sparks drop in funds collection


A choir that held a charity concert in Looe was unable to collect donations at the end of its show – after a fire alarm sounded during the last number.


Vocal group Keltique held a Pretty in Pink concert at Looe Community School to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign.


A spokeswoman for the all-female choir, directed by Jonathan Delbridge, said:


‘Unfortunately, during the last number the fire alarm went off and the building had to be evacuated leaving Beverley Richardson, assistant manager at Looe’s Cancer Research UK shop, with an almost empty pink collection bucket.’


Vocal group Keltique is now appealing for anyone who wanted to give a donation on the night to pass it to Beverley in the charity shop.


Bus drivers and shop workers were among those wearing pink as part of an annual event to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign.


Hundreds of fundraisers around South East Cornwall took part in the charity’s Wear it Pink campaign.


In Looe, many shops, pubs and restaurants took part and Miss Marples tearoom held a coffee morning with proceeds


going to the Breast Cancer Campaign.


Villagers in Pelynt were also heavily involved with shops,Wesley Garage and the social club taking part.


Bus drivers for Western Greyhoundraised money by donning something pink.


The money will fund some of the world’s most innovative and promising breast cancer research projects.
