Double celebration of taste awards
Three restaurants in Looe have been recognised at this year’s Taste of the West awards.
There was a double celebration for the owners of Barclay House in the town as it was presented a gold award alongside its sister restaurant Trawlers on the Quay.
Resident proprietor Graham Brooks said:‘The Barclay House team are especially proud of the combination of the two gold awards having previously received a bronze Taste of the West award in 2009.
Stunning views and food from award- winning Trawlers on the Quay.
‘The awards are also extremely encouraging as Trawlers on the Quay only became part of the Barclay House family in March 2010, marking this award as its first under our ownership.’
To celebrate, both restaurants are holding a special event on Friday, November 19.

Squid Ink Restaurant, Looe, was presented with a silver award in the restaurant category, while The Kitchen Tea Room & Restaurant, Polperro, and Muffin’s Tea Room, Lostwithiel, picked up silver awards in the cafe/tearoom category.
Freya (3) has her poem published
A mum from Looe has spoken of her pride after her three-year-old daughter had a poem published in a regional anthology.
Freya Kelly attends Barbican Pre-School, East Looe, and entered the poetry competition, where she used a template to fill in the words of her poem.
Her poem has now been published in the Rhyme Time Tiny Treasures book, which includes children’s poems from across the south west of the country.
Freya has been given her own copy of the book to keep.
Her proud mum Kirsty Taylor said: ‘I am just really pleased.
Wetherspoon set to take over club
Looe’s only nightclub has been approached by national pub chain JD Wetherspoon about a possible takeover bid.
The company has made several offers to the owners of the Admiral Boscarn over a period of a few months.
An offer has been accepted by owners Alan and Leandra Stone, but at the moment the club remains unsold.
‘It is just a very nice keep sake. It is just nice to encourage their learning and language skills and help their imagination and creativity.’
