Campaigning for more allotments
A councillor who helped secure land for allotments in Looe is hoping to make other land available to green- fingered residents in the town.
The persistent efforts of Cornwall councillor for East Looe and St Martins Armand Toms and resident Les Ternan over the past two years paid off after a site near Great Tree Farm was secured for around 35 keen gardeners.
Following talks with the farm shop’s new owner Rob Otley, council
officers gave permission for allotments on the land.
Cllr Toms said:‘I know I speak for the community when I say a big thank you should go to Les and Rob – this will be a wonderful community asset.
‘Although this will meet some of the local need the search still goes on for more allotments to meet the community’s needs.
‘If someone has land please let me know on 01503 264823,’ he added.
Two fire appliances from Looe and one from Liskeard were sent to Sunrising at 1.21am on Saturday, November 6 and found that the fire was in the hallway of a ground floor flat.
It was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a high-pressure hosereel.
A subsequent fire investigation confirmed that arson was the cause.
Police said they believe the fire was started at some time between 7.20pm on Friday, November 5, and the early hours of Saturday morning.
Substantial damage was caused to a wooden door
