F e a t u r e s
Spouses and partners of RAF personnel face increasingly difficult challenges. I am married to a member of the RAF and understand this unique lifestyle. I am also familiar with the difficulties spouses and partners face and the impact of frequent moves, long deployments and separations, with young or teenage children. Utilising this experience I have created workshops to focus exclusively on the military spouse or partner.
Even though they may not have much control over their spouse’s career and where it takes them, the workshops can help participants take control and enhance other aspects of their life fulfilling some of their own aspirations.
Coach and a Confidence Coach and was awarded a distinction. To further enhance my understanding I attended a number of Business Start Up courses.
My motivation was heightened when I started thinking about the people I wanted to work with. I was keen to work with mums or dads who had stayed at home to help put some balance back into their lives. When I thought about it I realised that working with military spouses and partners who were in exactly the same position as myself would be extremely rewarding.
I was the main presenter at a pilot project of Personal Development workshops at RAF Marham created with a colleague Poppy McNeill Love. Through focussed interaction in a friendly and supportive environment, participants were given powerful strategies to set challenging but realistic goals, to boost confidence and self esteem and to define ways to work towards the life they really want. We ran three workshops: ‘Transforming Dreams into Goals’, ‘Knowing Yourself’ and ‘The Way Forward’.
I am keen to work with as many RAF
spouses and partners as possible. It is all about participants developing a life for themselves whilst moving around with their spouse or partner. It could be about building confidence and fulfilling potential, getting a job or making career improvements, sharing positive communication as a family, developing a healthy lifestyle or identifying strengths and turning experiences into valuable assets. It is about whatever participants would like it to be.
From the Marham workshops there were many positives:
“You have filled me with inspiration and given me the confidence to achieve my goals.”
“I am leaving with a radically changed view of my abilities and strengths.” “I am a worthy person and have value.”
Food for thought:
“It is not in our stars to hold our destinies, but in ourselves.” William Shakespeare
