MATCH REPORT STAFFORD RANGERS 1- 0 SOLIHULL MOORS 17th August

The old adage of needing to take your chances when you are on top was never truer than at Stafford last Tuesday evening.

Solihull started well and Adam Cunnington, playing on his own up front due to Matt West’s injury, fired inches over when well placed on 7 mins. Two minutes later and Adam again, got into position on the end of a Junior English cross for another chance.

Jas Singh then saved in spectacular style as Ross Davidson replied for the home side, tipping over at full stretch, and from the corner, made a miraculous save with his feet to keep out a close range effort. Theo Streete saw an effort from a Ryan Beswick free kick fly inches wide on 15 mins and another Cunnington drive from fully 30 yards tested the keeper yet again on the half hour.

Just before the break twice Solihull should have led thanks to the central defenders. First Charlie O’Loughlan saw a header cleared off the line, and then Streete’s fierce header towards the top corner was wonderfully saved by Lee Evans.

In the second half Stafford, clearly smarting from strong half time words, came out and put Solihull under pressure for the first time, but it was a stroke of fortune that turned the game. Five minutes in Stafford lost top scorer Ben Mills to injury, but his replacement Chris Stanley had barely taken his track suit off before he had the ball in the net following a goal mouth muddle, for what turned out to be the winning goal.

Solihull did hit back and again went close through Cunnington who saw his effort bril- liantly turned round the post by top keeper Evans and again Evans saved from Alex Price’s effort from the corner.

Stafford’s two Loanees from Crewe had different sorts of games; defender Harry Davis was outstanding but midfielder Kelvin Mellor had a moment to forget on 80 minutes, relieving Solihull’s onslaught he broke clear and missed a glorious chance to settle the game, by completely missing his kick in front of an open goal.
