s I look longingly toward the promise of fall fun in Dallas—the State Fair, the Cotton Bowl and the end of the long, hot Texas summer—I continue to be divinely blessed by and amazed at the wealth of healthy-living technology, practitioners, and practices that I find. Equally amazing are all the green busi- nesses and green business practices that abound here in Dallas. Almost every day, I stumble upon someone doing something new and exciting in the healthy- living, green-living, and healthy-environment arenas. Yet I never tire of it and eagerly look forward to learn- ing about someone or something that contributes to making our planet a better, healthier, more stress-free place. I also have decided that I prefer the dry heat to the humidity of South Florida, where I used to live. This heat comes with family and old familiar friends—and that’s always refreshingly cool. A change in climate may offer our physical bodies a freshening up, but what about our spirits? Our feature article, “Living Art: Creativity Inspires Community” (page 18), looks at some of the creative ways that the arts bring people together in our community and around the world. No matter what the media is, creativity can inspire people to unite and enrich our lives and the planet. Maybe you can find some ideas to ignite your own creativity and sense of unity in this month’s issue. September is National Yoga month, and whether you’re experienced with yoga or just beginning, you’ll find a wealth of information and re- sources here to help you on your way to a calmer, healthier life, inside and out. You’ll see our list of some of the free yoga classes offered as part of the Dallas-Ft. Worth “Free Day of Yoga” on Labor Day, Monday, September 6 (page 6). We also offer tips and insights from those regarded worldwide as “Titans of Yoga” (page 10) and we bring you quotes from our own local yoga instructors (page 14). And finally, I hope you will be as enlightened as I was to learn about the impressive work that the National Football League is doing for our environ- ment. Since 1992 they have worked hard to plan and implement projects that have a significant, long-lasting, positive impact on Super Bowl host cit- ies. They do a lot more than just plant trees. On page 7, you can read about the Super Bowl XLV Environmental Program that’s happening in this year’s host city: Dallas!

And one more thing: Please see our Healthy Dining back cover for deli- cious, healthy eats, and email us your favorite healthy dining places. I hope you enjoy this issue as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it to-
gether. Next month we turn to one of the subjects I’m most passionate about: the environment. The anticipation of an extraordinary issue already has us breathless. As I gaze in awe at God’s great creation surrounding me, I’m ever more committed to preserving it, protecting it and using it as He intended. Thank you all for the phenomenal growth and support of Natural Awak- enings Dallas Edition. I wish you health and happiness.
Blessings, Bernice Butler, Publisher
