PROGRAMMES FROM THE PAST


Tonight we feature the programme from the game played at Gay Meadow on October 10th 1981. This was a second division match which ended in a one all draw, Chic Bates scored town's goal. A 32 page programme was produced, but unfortunately half of the content had nothing to do with either of the two teams. The programme contains certain traditional features, and we have reproduced some of the pages. Town manager the one and only Graham Turner appears to be defying the ageing process, how on earth can it be almost 30 years between these two fixtures.


Away travel to Cardiff gets a mention, alongside a crossword puzzle, and there is a full page devoted to Tottenham Hotspur!! The sponsor kit page had lots of gaps but a few names you will recognise, this was probably a relatively new fund raising idea in those days. I must check back and see when this form of sponsorship began.


Looking back, the contents of programmes in those days was rather basic compared to current match day magazines. They are more like magazines than programmes today aren't they.
