the first-quarter numbers re- ported to the Weaverville Town Council by the town’s ABC Board, the ABC store was not as profitable as first reported as a $35,000 net profit appears to be slightly less than $12,000. Te Tribune discovered that


there was a $14,000 difference in total sales between those re-


ported on the N.C. ABC Com- mission Web site and those re- ported to council. Te ABC system’s accountant


John W. Taylor responded with a faxed letter about the dispar- ity in figures May 12 which was past the newspaper’s deadline for last week’s edition. In that letter, Taylor stated


he believe the difference in the number stemmed from “a tim- ing difference between when the sales were reported to Raleigh


and when they were entered into the bookkeeping program.” Tay- lor went on to say that “...sales tax, which is included in the sales in the bookkeeping program, is omitted in the sales reported to


the ABC Commission.” After that Taylor went on to


explain that the $488,811.81 that was reported to the town council as sales during the first quarter included a December


sales deposit of $30,460.64 made in January. He also said that a March sales deposit of $7,142.17 was not included in the report. Tat made an adjusted sales
