Stella Marie Waring Weaverville – Stella Marie
Waring, age 95, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010. She was born Feb. 6, 1915,
in Herington, KS. Her parents were Fred C. Bratton and Olive Trammell Bratton. She moved to Weaverville in 1981 with her husband James L. Waring, who died in 1995. Stella was a sec- retary for many years. Her first job as a secretary was in the Sec- retary of State office in Oklaho- ma City. Later she was a secre- tary in the YMCA in Oklahoma City. Her last job was as secre- tary for her husband who was by then the General Secretary of the YMCA in Waco, Texas. Stella was a hospital volunteer for over 30 years. She began the work in Waco and was president of that group. Both she and her husband were volunteers at Mis- sion Hospital in Asheville. She began crocheting baby blankets for Project Linus when the or- ganization was first started in this area. It brought her great pleasure and she continued this work until a month before her death. She was active in the United Methodist Church in Weaverville. Surviving are her daughter
Dore Hansel of Mars Hill; three grandchildren, five great grand- children and numerous nieces and nephews. Her funeral service was held
at 2:30 pm on Friday, May 14, at Weaverville United Method- ist Church, with Rev. Linda M. Kelly officiating. Burial was in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of f lowers, donations

Troy E. Bailey Weaverville – Troy E. Bai-
ley, age 56, of 20 Court House Drive, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Mr. Bailey was born Sept. 22,
1953, in Buncombe County. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in Vietnam. Troy was a retired machinist. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 21
years, S. Diann Williams of Weaverville; daughter Kaycee Bailey, and son Matthew Bai- ley, both of Weaverville; parents Earl and Louise Massey Bailey of Alexander; sister Lisa Hon- eycutt and husband Lt. Col. Rodney Honeycutt of Hawaii; nephews, Noah, Gavin and Joshua; brother J.J. Bailey and wife Jessica of Alexander; and nephew Landon. His funeral service was held
at 2:30 pm on Monday, May 17, 2010, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Larry Sprouse and Rev. Drew Mabry officiating. Burial was in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family received friends
from 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at the funeral home. Flowers were acceptable and

Price, 67, of 104 N. Main St., passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 in John F. Keever Solace Center. She was born in Mitch- ell County to the late Lloyd and Magnolia Thomas Chandler. She was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. Surviving are two sons, Ed-

Phyllis Shook King Powell Asheville - Phyllis Shook King
Powell died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the age of 83 following a long illness. She was a resi- dent of Asheville and a member of Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church. Phyllis was born in Charlotte
on June 26, 1926, daughter of Luther and Hettie Shook, she
had three brothers, Carter, Clif- ton and Ervin and one sister Ramona Rice.

Following her
mother’s death at a young age Phyllis attended the Children’s Home in Winston Salem from 1937-1944. Phyllis launched her own Real Estate business. In her 30s she began a nursing career. During her more than 16 years of formal education Phyllis received her LPN license (Yale New Haven, CT), RN license (Asheville-Buncombe Tech) and Drug-Alcohol Tech Degree (Southwestern Tech, Sylva). Before retiring in 1991 Phyllis worked as a nurse-in- charge, private duty nurse, trav- eling nurse/companion, drug/ alcohol counselor, coronary care nurse, and psychiatric nurse. Phyllis had a love for reading
and writing. She wrote many short stories of her life and was in the process of writing her memoirs. Phyllis will always be remembered for her wonderful story telling, sense of humor, and love for her familyÖespe- cially her children, grandchil- dren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis is survived by her three
children: Daniel King and wife Sheri of Asheville, Philip Powell of Asheville and Deborah Steady and husband John of New Bern. Grandchildren: Scott Van- Steenburgh of West Haven, Ct and Chelsea King of Asheville, also, Dee wife of Daniel Pica- gli (deceased) of East Haven, CT.
