Smart shines in singing competition
Barnardsville resident Coleman Smart scored a perfect 5.0 score during a junior talent competition sponsored by the Church of God in March in Gastonia. He sang “Lord You’re Holy” by Karen Wheaton. He also sang this song at the N.C. Mountain State Fair and took home first place and $150 in the Junior Vocal Solo Division of the Gospel Singing Competition. Search

Happy ever after. NBHS Student wins Governor’s Award Kimberly Buckner, a North Bun-
combe High School student, was one of three students in the state whose artwork received the Gover- nor’s Award this year. Claire Simpson-Jones, the NBHS
art teacher, and Buckner attended the ceremony on April 9 at the Governor’s Mansion in Raleigh. Robert Eaves, husband to Gov. Beverly Perdue, presented Buckner with her award. Tis is the third year in a row
that a NBHS student’s work was chosen for this prestigious award. Her work is on display at the Gov- ernor’s Mansion through July.
