Local woman one of four in alleged fraud scheme
A Weaverville woman was one of
four arrested Tuesday (March 30) in connection to an ongoing fraud inves- tigation at the City of Asheville’s Hu- man Resources Department. Robin Nix, who was the depart-
ment’s assistant director, is charged with three felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. According to Asheville City Man-
ager Gary Jackson, Nix is no longer employed with the city. She, along with director Lisa Roth
and staffers Elizabeth Oldre and Laura Masters, are facing a combined 16 felony charges after detectives con- ducted a four-month investigation, uncovering irregularities in the city’s health-care flexible savings plan. Te four women are accused of
defrauding the city through the sav- ings plan. Te plan allows for city employees to pay into a fund and seek reimbursement for medical costs not covered by insurance.
