School football team started its camp Monday (July 26) in prepara- tion for the official start of practice on Monday (Aug. 2). “Our camp gets kids acclimated


to our system ahead of time so that we don’t have to start completely over on the first day of practice,” head coach Carey Metts said. “I’ve been very impressed with all our kids. In the first few days you’ve got some kids who don’t completely understand the system yet, but ev- eryone’s catching on, learning a lot and doing really well. Tis way we’ll be able to get right on the road and go.”


Te BlackHawks finished 2-9 last


season but only one of those wins came on the field. League officials awarded North Buncombe a victory against McDowell at the end of last season because of a disqualification.


Inexperience plagued last year’s


team as only four starters from the 2008 playoff team returned.


Te Blackhawks will play their


season opener Aug. 20 at Mountain Heritage.
