est and discipline Ruffing and his fellow teachers impart, some of the same kids continue pursuing tennis as they progress through school. “A lot of kids have come through

the program,” he said. Te eight-week course teaches

beginners and advanced beginners fundamentals of the game to chil- dren aged 10-13 on the courts at North Buncombe Middle School. Ruffing said they are split up by skill level and work with each of the teachers.

Tis year’s summer slate wrapped

up Wednesday (July 28). An end-of-summer rally will be held Aug. 1 (Sunday) at Aston Park in Asheville. Te program, which is also held

in the area at Enka, Malvern Hills, Roberson, Reynolds, Aston Park, Owen and Cane Creek, costs $15 per participant. A course for similarly aged inter-

mediate and advanced intermedi- ate players is held each summer at North Buncombe High School.
