Leonard, a graduate of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce Leadership Brandon class 2009, “Ready to Shine” has demon- strated his strong sense of community involvement by support- ing several of the community events that allow the children and adults an opportunity to be part of something greater. Finan- cially, LAD has contributed more than $15,000 in services and scholarships to the Brandon community since opening in 2007. LAD’s children and parents have donated their time and tal- ents to the Delaney Creek Assisted Living facility in Brandon, Plant City Black Heritage Festival, Music Showcase Holiday Cel- ebration in Brandon, The American Cancer Society Fundraiser, Brandon Youth Theater, Boys & Girls Club, and Girl Scouts of America.
World performer, director, and choreographer (5 continents) Leonard has brought that vision of international expansion to LAD in Brandon.
January 2010-Leonard returned to Frankfurt, Germany as a dancer and actor in the premier performance of “Hope-the Musical” a play about the election of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States.
April 2010-Leonard’s Academy of Dance accepted an invitation by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Vortex International Dance Centre, and the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia. April 19-May 1, 2010, six dancers, singers, and instructors from Leonard’s Academy of Dance completed a two week tour of master dance classes, vocal workshops, and a 45 minute performance celebrat- ing Black America with songs and dances that have touched the hearts of millions around the world.
Leonard’s influence has led to two LAD instructors becoming finalists in the Chicago 2007 audition of the hit television show “So You Think You Can Dance”. Jarvis (brother and instructor at LAD) advanced to Vegas and became one of the top 75 of 5,000 that auditioned. Maybe you know someone who could be next.
