are separated on different servers. Thus, trade operations are processed on one server, and the history of quotes and news – on another one. Such a distribution of functions allows for a better scalability of the new platform. In fact, there are many
differences. Actually MetaTrader 5 and MetaTrader 4 are absolutely different platforms.
FXTM. When you started the
project, which improvements did you have in mind for forex traders and brokers?
AS. We’ve implemented everything
we wanted. MetaTrader 5 can be integrated with other systems. For brokers, this means the possibility to easily enter new markets and expand their businesses. The new platform gets higher performance and scalability, which is also vital for expanding one’s business. Besides, we wanted to give more
opportunities and information for analysis to traders. MetaTrader 5 has 21 timeframes, more parameters of quotes, more technical indicators and analytical tools. I think this will be enough to most of traders. If someone needs more, we offer the MQL5 environment. So traders can develop or order a desired analytical tool or a trading robot.
FXTM. With MetaTrader 4,
MetaQuotes is already the worldwide leader on the retail forex market. Do you expect MetaTrader 5 to expand your client base to new markets? What are your objectives?

But it’s not a reason to stop for us. We always try to improve our products and offer something new to our clients. Thus we can extend our client base on the retail forex, expand to new markets and protect ourselves from competitors. Many forex brokers want to enter
new financial and equity markets. Expanding business into adjacent markets is not an easy thing. For our part, we tried to remove the technical barrier from their path. With MetaTrader 5, they will be able to enter the adjacent markets, not having to change their soft or re- train their staff. One more advantage for brokers – their traders also do not have to learn a new client terminal.
FXTM. What are the most
innovative features of MetaTrader 5? The ones you are the most proud of ?
AS. In fact, there are a lot of
them, and all of them are closely interrelated. If I try to tell you about one of the features, I will have to tell you about the whole platform. The platform was written from scratch, and it is built of new features. So, it’s hard to single out one thing.
FXTM. The market had been
waiting for MT5 for over a year. Can you explain the delay between the announcement of the new terminal and its release on the market?
AS. It all stems from our desire to
release a stable product, and from the very character of the software.
Development of a new platform is quite a lengthy process. In this case, time is measured by months and even years. Well, we started to develop MetaTrader 5 three years ago. It is therefore no wonder that testing took us 9 more months. And we really wanted the product
to be as stable and reliable as possible. That is why we introduced a multi- stage testing. First, MetaTrader 5 was tested in our own QA department. The second stage was a closed beta testing of the client terminal among selected traders. This was followed by an open testing, which lasted for a few months. During this time, we managed to
fix a lot of bugs and implemented dozens of traders’ suggestions. During the open testing, we released about 50 builds, each of them with fixed bugs and implemented suggestions. So, this is not a long time for such a great job.
FXTM. What has been the
market reaction since the official release on the 1st of June? Is the demand stronger from the retail or institutional side so far?
AS. The market reaction was an
increased interest. It’s one thing when software is available but is on the testing stage. It’s quite another thing when the software is officially released. The client terminal was available to traders since the end of the previous year, when the open testing stared. They tried it, saw what the MetaTrader 5 is and calmed down.
