Stourbridge FC

Ian Pilkington One volunteer

We have the main pitch but also a training area which is part of the cricket outfield. This area can be used from Sept to early March

The pitch is soil/sand mixture, I have increased the sand content over the past three years following a soil sample from Mansfield Sand

No

None really. Corporate games end third week in May. No dates but you have to expect a pre-season friendly in mid July

Koro fraise mown in two directions, vertidrained to depth of 10", topdressed with 90 tonnes of Mansfield sand, seeded 3-4 ways with 16-20 bags of mm60 and mm25 grass seed. Fertilised with twelve bags of Scotts pre- season fertiliser

Scarify stadium pitch in two different directions £750. Overseed in three different directions £350. Apply Primo MAXX to pitch w/c 18th May £250. Apply Primo MAXX to pitch w/c 22nd June £350. Topdressing of sand to be applied by club staff before overseeding. Training pitches at stadium and Sundorne Castle will be renovated by club staff. Basically scarifying worn areas and seeding using fertiliser spinner and topdressing with sand rootzone

Most of the work carried out by contractors with assistance from groundstaff

Simon Hutton at Fineturf

Two years ago we did a complete renovation of the surface bringing in 260 tonnes of fibresand and, following that, have had very good results

All scarifying, overseeding and spraying will be done by contractor. The rest of the work will be done in house

ALS - Amenity Land Solutions

Cheap simple option which should work perfectly with full irrigation available on the stadium pitch. Get the pitch back to a level smooth surface, free of poa with an excellent covering of grass.

We were hoping to install a Desso Grassmaster surface but have had to hold back because of the financial position and the league positions of both the football and rugby club

No

As I am a volunteer, the club pays no wages so I have a bit more leeway, but I try to keep costs to around £3500

Yes the club shares the facility with the town’s cricket club, the last football match being Saturday 25th April and the first cricket match will be Saturday 2nd May

Pitch will be ‘Shockwaved’, 40 tonnes of 50/50 sand soil mix, Bar50 SOS grass seed with Scotts slow release fertiliser. The total cost will be around £4,000

Sand ameliorated

Mostly clay to sandy clay natural soil

Not open ended budget but, as long as I can justify the need, I get very good support

Because we have our own kit and staff we can be flexible and do it when weather is right for the job. But close season is getting shorter every year

Sand spreading (about 60 tonnes per pitch) £20,000. Seeding £10,000. Chemicals as required £3,000. Weidenman Terraspike four times a season, four feeds £13,000. Marking for every game £4,000, irrigation on two show pitches and training pitch £12,000. Day to day cutting and scarifying

Overall budget, yes. For spring renovations as much as I can afford. This year I will spend £9250

Before Easter holidays so I can concentrate on preparations for summer term.

Cut sportsfields to 19mm. Vertidrain 2 pitches to 9" at 4" spacings - £1,050 for machine and operator hire. Overseed most pitches at 35g square metre (some less rate). Seed - £4,000 for 55 bags (20kg). Fertilise most pitches at 35g square metre (again, some at lower rate) - £1,800 for 100 bags (25kg). Topdress two pitches (Juniors/Colts) with AFS 50 sand - £1,600 for 40 tonnes. Brush and mat in topdressing, hire of seeder and topdresser - £800

All the work will be contracted out although I will be doing some preparation prior to the renovations such as seeding/topdressing linesman run ups and goal areas

ARC Groundcare

Due to the dual use I am aiming for a rapid

establishment of grass which can survive the lower cutting height for the cricket season. The fertiliser will last the four month period of the summer although I still aim to apply liquid fertiliser and PrimoMaxx

Like most non league clubs, I have to be financial prudent year on year, and look to get the best value for the money available

A good working relationship between football and cricket clubs has been established in the last few years and this can only be of benefit to both

All in house apart from sand spreading

All in house except aeration as the school does not possess vertidrain

ATB Sport solutions

Sand spreading, as it is important to keep the top open. If not done worms would have brought up the native clay soil and this would cap over the surface. Good deep aeration at end of season lets roots go deeper meaning less drought stress

I would liked to have sandmastered some pitches this coming season. Long, term the drainage on pitches not sand mastered will become less effective.

I would like to be proactive rather than reactive. The clubs that spend money on good facilities will be the ones that will prosper in the future. The new generation of players will not be willing to play on poor surfaces when a club down the road has better pitches

WT & RJ Jones

To aid recovery of pitches from winter wear and to boost grass density and early spring growth. This is so that ongoing health of sward is maintained and to reduce weed ingress to keep quality of sports fields in a playable condition throughout the year with a high level of presentation

Not as yet.

We would like to do more in the way of spring renovations, however, we are restricted by budget which leaves me to have to prioritise the areas needed for renovation and to rotate topdressing on different pitches each year
