Days OFF! NTF - up the Pool!
... or what the Pitchcare team get up to out of office hours
JOHN Richards - Befitting a gentleman of his advancing years and marital status, days off are taken up by leisurely pursuits such as gardening, golf and providing funding for his wife, Pam’s, shopping trips. On a mission to make his lawn the envy of the neighbourhood, using the expertise that surrounds him at Pitchcare. So far to no avail. Used to be a football fan, of Wolves, (is that a contradiction in terms?) but realised that there were far better things to do with his time. Pops in to Birmingham occasionally to watch his favourite comedian, Jasper Carrott, and his favourite band, ELO. With one daughter in Melbourne and another in Yorkshire, and a first grandchild on the way, travelling and babysitting look likely to be the demands on any future spare time.
NATIONAL Turfgrass Foundation ‘In Pursuit of Excellence’ Annual Conference is moving location for 2005 and is heading for the bright lights of Britain’s most popular resort. The NTF volunteers will again be hosting their Annual Conference ‘In Pursuit of Excellence’ this time at the Hilton Hotel, North Promenade, Blackpool, England The event will be staged from 5th December to 8th December 2005 inclusive and will, as in previous years, concentrate on research findings by some of the most distinguished researchers and agronomists in the world. This year’s programme will be no exception. International speakers will be covering a wide range of topics from exciting developments in the control of Poa annua to the cultural
management of fine-leafed fescues; dealing with member conflict to dealing with problem soils. There will also be a strong emphasis on environmental issues, a groundsmanship day and many useful tips on how to enhance the natural qualities of your golf course/sports pitch, and how to manage on a low budget, as well as gain more recognition and job satisfaction from your work. Education and training is an essential part of personnel management and the following tips may help you present your case for financial support to attend this, the largest turfgrass education event of its kind in Europe.
