In the beginning Metrology is required within research and development. E.g. there has to be figured out the behaviour of CFRP within the autoclave-process. How big is the shrinking-effect or how does CFRP yield using big layer structured in coincidence with steeply inclined moulds? Afterwards Metrology is needed from building and adjusting plants up to approval of machines. In the next step Metrology helps evaluating quality of single parts machining and flexion. This is especially important in aviation where the tolerances of very complex parts have to be proofed and documented. After that Metrology supports the process of assembling parts.

Ground vibration testing (GVT) is typically performed very late in the development process. The main purpose of the test is to obtain experimental vibration data of the aircraft structure for validating and improving its structural dynamic models. Due to limited availability of the aircraft for a GVT and the fact that multiple configurations need to be tested, an extreme time pressure exists to get test results. This presentation discusses recent hardware and software technology advancements for performing GVT that are able to realize testing and analysis time reduction without compromising the accuracy of the results.
Efficient fuel leak location

Today various methods for aircraft fuel leak location are available. They’re either are based on visual inspection, pressure measurement or on tracer gases. These methods can be evaluated on the time needed for pin pointing leaks and their reliability. Quick and precise leak location in parallel to high reliability are the key factors for reducing aircraft ground time. Applying the most efficient method in connection with especially designed tools ensures a return on investment after a few repair jobs only.

AIDASS is a Test Support System (TSS) for the complete lifecycle of an aircraft, from early system prototyping to pre flight ground tests. In the last few years, evolution in PC technology brought multi core systems and hardware virtualization. These features allow running multiple operating systems independently in one system. In the AIDASS case one CPU core with Windows is used for the GUI, the other cores perform real time processing. In combination with PCI based I/O interfaces we can build small and portable TSS with cost effective PC technology; with PC Card interfaces even Laptop based TSS are possible.
