BEAUTY Q&A

DEAR ERICK,

"High on Love" in the Jan-Feb 2010 issue of Pulse Magazine

is my favorite fashion spread to date. I loved the retro pin-up doll style! The Veronica Lake waves pictured on the cover were elegant, sexy, and very modern. It's so refreshing to see a local magazine featuring such up-to-date innovative fashion! Is it possible to achieve this look at home? Any tips? -MINDY

DEARMINDY,

I have to agree, "High on Love" is one of my favorites too! I was an Air

Force brat, so it was really exciting to work with the MIG fighter jets. When photographer, Sylvia Krivickova, first shared her vision, Anita and I

knew exactly what was needed for hair. Jennifer Gibson nailed the makeup!

STEP 1: To help add body to the cover model Gio Ott's hair, we first applied Biofoam by Rusk to her scalp.

TIP: ALLOW ONLY A VERY SMALL AMOUNT TO COME THROUGH TO THE ENDS.

STEP 2: Starting at the bang area, we then set her hair with hot rollers.

TIP: START SETTING ROLLERS AT THE CROWN OF THE HEAD WORKING BACK, AND THEN SET A ROLLER HORIZONTALLY ON EACH SIDE OF THE FACE.

STEP 3: Next, we set rollers vertically and away from her face, starting

with hair on the left and repeating with any loose hair.

TIP: SET ROLLERS ALL THE WAY AROUND THE HEAD *ONCE YOU REACHED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HEAD, THE ROLLERS POINT TOWARD THE FACE.

STEP 4: Once the rollers cooled and were removed, we sprayed Gio's hair lightly with Bieng Sexy hair spray by Rusk. Finally, after allowing a minute to dry, we brushed out her hair. From this point on, it's just a matter of placing hair visually and spraying it in place.

TIP: BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVER SPRAY!

Mindy, just a note… I always like to mention the

products that I use at the photo shoot. It's hard enough to get the right results at home, but it's even harder if you're not using the right products! The hot rollers are BABYLISS PRO CERAMIC 30. They come with butterfly clips tosecure the rollers making the process much easier. I look forward to hearing how the hair style turns out for you! Better yet, stop by TORY'S
