“International Young Rider Talent Fund”

USET Foundation Establishes

Gladstone, New Jersey - The United States Equestrian Team Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the “Inter- national Young Rider Talent Fund” that will be used to support the United States Equestrian Federation’s High Performance International Young Rider and Developing programs in the Olympic disciplines. An integral part of the long-term High Perfor- mance strategy, these programs play a crit- ical role in developing the best possible United States Equestrian Teams for the future. Although this country has many tal- ented young riders that have been success- ful in national competition, most have not been exposed to, nor have had the opportu- nity to hone their skills in the international arena as a member of a “team”.

The USET Foundation recognizes the value and importance of providing interna- tional competition experience to the United States’ young talent, and is excited to work with donors who share its passion and interest in making sure our rising young stars are provided with these international experiences now and in the future. “It is so important for this country to make the Young Rider and Developing programs a priority and permanent part of the High Performance program,” said Jane Forbes Clark, USET Foundation President and CEO. “Unfortunately, they have been the first thing to go when funding gets tight. We feel that by establishing a sepa- rate fund and actively working with indi- viduals to build this fund over time, we will have been instrumental in truly build- ing for the future, and giving our rising tal- ent the opportunities that are necessary for the United States to continue its leadership among the world’s top equestrian nations

now and in the years to come.”

An initial gift will be made by the USET Foundation to the USEF for the 2010 International Show Jumping Young Rider Tour, based on contributions to date. This funding will be used to provide grants to riders selected for the tour, who need and apply for funding.

“As the coach for the United States High Performance Show Jumping Teams, I am committed to putting a plan in place that will allow our teams to win at the highest levels in the sport. A critical part of this plan is providing a program for out tal- ented young riders to ensure the United States’ long-term success internationally.” - George H. Morris, U.S. Show Jumping Chef d’ Equipe and USET Foundation Trustee

The USET Foundation is seeking additional gifts to not only help with this Tour, but to also establish the “Internation- al Young Rider Talent Fund” as a viable source of funding and support for these essential International Young Rider and Developing programs. Individuals may make contributions to a specific Olympic discipline or unrestricted.

Competition Task Force

Ottawa, ON — Jump Canada has established a task force to review its current Jump Cana- da Competition Policy, to update it for future years and to answer the continuing need to keep it current with the existing status of the sport in Canada.

The task force is charged with examin- ing all aspects of the current Jump Canada Competitions Policy and recommending any changes to the current policy that they con- sider would better serve our sport. The task force will examine the competition policies of other countries.

Particular attention shall be paid to the current policy dealing with date exclusivity and date renewal. The relationship that FEI sanctioned events play relative to national tournament sanctioning shall also be exam- ined as well as the effect that major games have on important FEI and Equine Canada competitions. A focus on establishing a for- ward looking, multi-year calendar will also be maintained.

“We are reviewing the competition poli- cies of other countries and comparing them to the Jump Canada Competition Policy,” said Jump Canada Competitions Task Force chair, Bob Henselwood. “Our goal is to bring the Jump Canada policy in to alignment for the best interest of the sport in Canada.” Members of the task force will be in contact with competition organizers, riders, competitors and officials across the country over the next few months for input and back- ground.

The Task Force will bring forward rec- ommendations to the Jump Canada Board no later than the Board meeting at the RAWF in November, 2010. An interim report to the Jump Canada Board in September is also planned.
