The Joy of Easter
By Dr. Chad Audi
Just as you all have been
preparing for and celebrating Easter, we at Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries are cel- ebrating it with our residents and clients. This is a wonder- ful time to remember what God in Jesus has done for us. So let us talk about Easter.
The Easter event is some-
thing we all can celebrate but do we know the real story behind Easter and what led up to it? Had it not been for the long, painful walk and hard death He experienced before that long ago Sunday dawn, there could not have been the joy of His wonderful resurrec- tion. What He went through is all the more remarkable be- cause at any time, He could have stopped going on the path He travelled and had He chosen to, He could have avoided suffering altogether. He suffered pain for the prize and not because He had no choice.
By not choosing to avoid
the things He suffered, He set a real example for us as we live our lives. Let me ex- plain. When Jesus was taken through Jerusalem’s streets, forced to carry His cross on His body, He was insulted, pelted, spit at, cursed at, and bled from wounds all over His body. Please believe that had He chosen to, His pain would have immediately stopped and He would have been delivered by God’s angels. This would have been good news for Him
tience, sacrifice, compassion and real unconditional love.
Detroit Rescue Mission
Ministries operates in a very hard environment because we want to do God’s work. We believe all the challenges that come in a day’s work to our faith confirm we are doing the right things.
If we get sued,

and incredibly bad news for us. Instead, He stayed on that road to free us from sin’s pen- alty and to give us our chance to live our lives with Him and for Him, now and always.
In the clearest way possi-
ble, He showed us life is very hard, especially if you want to do God’s work. To take the quick easy way out yields little reward while too continue to struggle to do great justice to others produces great re- wards.
What can these rewards
include? You will be closer to God the Almighty and hap- pier in your life. You will be a blessing to others, showing people for a long time what is right and what is wrong, and you will equip yourself to know the differences between the right and wrong things to do. You will learn to practice and then be able to teach pa-
are criticized for the way we love others, or face hardships providing service, we can carry on because we know a reward is there in front of us and we know this is exactly what Jesus said to do, in His words and actions. Despite all the challenges we face, whether political, economic, or social, we gladly and confidently do the work needed to provide quality services to people who come to our doors and treat each person who comes with the dignity, respect, and the humanity he or she deserves.
As we do so, we confidently
ask you to continue to pray for us and to continue to donate money, time and items to help us provide 4,000 meals and other services to over 1,400 homeless and poor people who come to us daily. Share with us in the joy of helping these precious people heal by God’s grace and be a part of the joy on the faces of people who finish our programs, re- connect to their families, find steady jobs, get a good educa- tion, and become connected to their local church, surrounded by good people like you.
Happy Easter!

Kinfolks smiling, waving, and dancing kids running, playing and crying All of the joys of family flowing in a symphony of memories
I look down at the picture in my hand At the love one just lost, too young too soon, almost too much to bear I stare at their smile over and over
I remember their voice, their smell, their laugh As the sun slips behind the clouds again

POETIC REFLECTIONS
‘Joey’
It is a warm breezy day The last of an afternoon shower the air smells fresh, clean and sweet
The sun slips out from behind the few remaining clouds and warms my skin, oh so gently
I sit on the porch thinking, daydreaming memories of yesterdays flood my mind images, sounds and smells rush like a raging river to my senses
I hold hands with loved ones long gone I cuddle and kiss the little ones long since grown too big to ride upon my knee and no longer welcome cuddling

cool, and chilly A tear drops onto the photo and runs down their face
I close my eyes tighter I try to find solace in my memories I try to find peace I try to enjoy the warm breezy day
Just like finding a $20 bill in a sport jacket pocket, You will find love tucked away in people you never suspected even cared!
