The external elevations of Central House, a 3-storey office building in Harrogate, have been transformed by Structura UK Ltd in a phased contract over 40 weeks worth £2.5 million. The original curtain walling had sprung minor leaks and come to the end of its useful life. Over 750 vision units were replaced with new dual seal, double glazing units, and the old aluminium panels were replaced by over 900 double-glazed spandrel panels. Structura UK also removed the old, manual swing doors to the main entrance, and installed a new revolving door together with one automatic pass door and one manual door.

Zinc Rainwater System Cheaper than Aluminium
The new VMZinc Rainwater ‘System D’ brochure details how zinc’s distinctive visual appearance enables it to provide greater design scope than other metals. The use of concealed brackets creates a flowing gutter line in a material which is long-lasting, far lighter than cast iron and the most sustainable metal used in construction today. Rainwater System D is invariably less expensive than aluminium and is available in half round, box and OG profiles in pre-weathered (black) Anthra-Zinc® and (grey) Quartz-Zinc®

Red Cedar shingles have recently been fitted onto a £1.4 million conical roofed craft centre in Wakefield, which will act as a specialist college for young people with learning difficulties. The innovative new building has been entered into RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architect) and NFRC (National Federation of Roofing Contractors) awards. The eye-catching roof complements the circular shape of the craft centre, which replaces several temporary buildings and smaller workshops. It will act as a base for the teaching of land-based NVQs once construction is complete in Easter 2010.
