Weaverville Town Council Candidate
Sherrill enters 20th year on council
By Matt Tate
As the longest-tenured member
of the Weaverville Town Council
and a native of the town, Dottie
Sherrill said she has seen numerous
changes in the town.
She hopes to see a few more dur-
ing her next four years on the coun-
cil.
In addition to continuing gov-
erning to ensure controlled business
and residential growth, she wants
to see more sidewalks and beautifi-
cation efforts in certain areas.
The last part is an extension of the
work done by Mayor Bett Stroud,
who is leaving office in November.
“I think some of the things [Bett]
has stood for has been a real plus
for the town,” she said, citing the
numerous Tree City USA awards as
an example.
Despite running unopposed for
her seat on the council, the vice
mayor said she has been campaign-
ing because she “doesn’t want to
win an election with my vote and
my husband’s vote.”
During her campaigning, she
said she noted a number of residents
who said they will miss Stroud.
Sherrill plans to stay involved
with the town’s Christmas parade
and senior Christmas dinner and
hopes to bring back at least some of
the Fourth of July celebration that
was cancelled this year due to bud-
getary concerns.
