The revised ‘Alu-line’ sauna cabin has
new slim-line profiles to give the cabin a
‘lighter’ feel and is also now available in a
gloss black finish, with two fully glazed
floor to ceiling walls and door.
Supplying 90 different countries across
the globe, the company recognises that its
products need to be design led and is
introducing a number of modular packages
in order to allow greater flexibility of
design, especially in the commercial hotel
and leisure sectors.
Two commercial leisure suites in Sweden
showed how standard Tylö saunas can be
customised to meet the needs of such
facilities. In October last year, hotel owners
Per Gessle (of rock band ‘Roxette’ fame)
and Björn Nordstrand, invested undisclosed
millions of Swedish crowns in a new spa at
the aptly named Hotel ‘Tylösand’.
The ö in Swedish means ‘island’ and Tylö
took its name from the ‘Tyl’ ö (island), which
is considered an icon for Halmstad and,
therefore, Tylö should be an icon for saunas.
The hotel’s former pool hall has been
transformed, with a second floor added and
it now boasts 21 treatment rooms attended
by 100 therapists, a fully equipped wet area,
gym, exercise studio and restaurant, all
surrounded by a sun terrace overlooking a
stunning white sandy beach.
No self-respecting Swedish spa would be
without a sauna and at the Hotel Tylösand,
there are three, a multi-seated tiled and
glazed walled sauna within the pool hall
complex, where bathers sit on teak
benches looking out to the remote an
uninhabited Tylö island. To cool off bathers
use an adjacent iced-water plunge pool.
In the wet area there is a purpose-built
‘Turkish Bath’ steam room, with steam
generator equipment and atmospheric
ceiling lighting supplied by Tylö. Whilst
cold showers are available, bathers can also
experience the ‘adventure’ shower – an
automated pre-programmed cold-warm-hot
water and co-ordinated coloured lighting
experience that stimulates all the senses.
In complete contrast and requiring some
extensive and at £5m not to mention
costly, civil engineering works to the
structure of the original traditional
building, the Best Western Stadshotell in
the centre of Varbergs has developed an
‘Asia Spa’.
The facilities include a ‘vitality’
swimming pool, treatment rooms and a
most architecturally pleasing sauna,
complete with exposed roof beams.
“My trend line with the Tylö brand in the
UK is upwards and I see this new range as a
means to continue to achieve and hopefully
steepen that progression,” said Oliv.spn
