4th Annual Red Dress Luncheon
The fourth annual Red Dress Luncheon and Fashion Show was a great success. The sold-out event drew more than 300
attendees and raised more than $30,000. This year's event, held on February 6, 2009 at the Country Club of Landfall, raised
money to support heart health screenings and cardiac risk awareness among women in our region. Heart disease is the leading
cause of death in women, with nearly 500,000 women dying each year due to cardiovascular disease.
This year's Red Dress Luncheon's keynote speaker was Maggie McLamb, M.A. LPC. She is a Professional Counselor at a
private practice in Wilmington, whose life has been greatly affected by heart disease. Maggie created a program called The
Heart Mind Connection, to help cardiac patients with their emotional recovery as well as how to thrive while living with heart
disease. The crowd was greatly moved by Maggie's emotional speech.
The event was emceed by Miss USA 2005, Chelsea Cooley Altman, and featured looks from more than 20 local boutiques.
The models were heart disease survivors, patients, and caregivers who each had a personal story of how heart disease has
touched their lives.
