CUpa’S CORNER
development at
the local level
BY DANNY SAUNDERS
OVER THE PAST DECADE the organization
of Canadian Ultimate has changed immensely.
From a few small and medium sized volunteer
run leagues have grown a number of strong and
sophisticated organizations with many programs,
long-term plans, and in some cases their own
fields. One key change that large leagues have
made to support this growth and development
is hiring staff. Whether it is a full-time executive
director to oversee the organization or a part-
time staff member to operate a junior’s program,
leagues have hired staff to meet the needs of
their growing membership. This has drastically
changed their capabilities by allowing them
to support larger memberships, develop new
programs, and reduce the burden on their
volunteers. Today, leagues continue to provide
great opportunities for people to play Ultimate
& it is great to see the growth and success that
they have achieved!
