Dear Readers,

Change is in the air in California.
West Coast
As we move into the summer circuits and riders go off to outer parts of the
nation and the world, here at home there is change in the air. The
Oaks/Blenheim show grounds future is one of the main topics of
conversation with the most often question being, “OH DEAR, what are we
July / August 2008
going to do? What next?” No one seems to know the answer at the
moment, which just adds to the chatter. The state fairgrounds in
Orange County are losing another 60 stalls as the new “Chief
Founder/Publisher
Executive Officer”, Steve Beazley, starts the takeover of that
position. This particular state fairground seems to be run by
Kathy Hobstetter
“Demolition Boys” who love the art of tearing down things
horse connected just so they can build parking or storage, or in
this case - a trash compacting station. Those stalls sit adjacent

to the training/boarding facility and have been exceptionally Shelley Allyn
important to the community during catastrophic situations
like the fires last fall. This particular fairground seems to
have turned into a commercial shopping ‘center’ and is
Technical Editor
not a fairground anymore. Seems someone should put in
Sandra Murphy
a request to change its name to “Commercial Center”, it
no longer represents what California fairgrounds are all
about, especially when it comes to livestock and good

old down home community.
Look for several changes in top barns here on the
Susie McCleary
coast. Training staffs are expanding, making
additional jobs for exciting new young professionals
Editorial Department
to have opportunities not available before. New
training barns opening up as young trainers spread
Sharon Weiss
their wings and start their own businesses. High
profile assistant trainers stepping out, with the
blessing of their current bosses, to establish high
Design & Art Direction
performance training barns. Hummingbird Nest
Working Lens Productions
Ranch opening again to high performance show
horses and seeking resident trainers. That is just a

small taste of the California activity, pretty exciting. Justin Phillips
And, again, ShowBiz magazine is right in the
midst of things. Expanding and growing, THANK
YOU, as it has hit the ground running this second
Contributing Editors
year. It is a real treat to drive through the show
Kristin Kenney
grounds and be stopped many, many times by people
who either want the current/new issue or maybe just
Lincoln Rogers
crawling into the ShowBiz golf cart only to chat. Sandra Murphy
AND quite interestingly, the judges from all over the
country have now heard about ShowBiz and are
Cate Crismani
sending a request to have a copy either dropped at their
Alden Corrigan
back gate for them to read, or sent to them where they
live. I LOVE THEIR FEEDBACK!!!
PLEASE visit the new web site to see the expansion and
excitement that show horse people are talking about.
So enjoy this summer issue and read all about the
happenings in the Northern California area, as well as what is
going on down south. This is a fun issue and a chance to start
the mix of north and south together in SHOWBIZ!!!!
