the show is so special due to both the dedicated volunteer base and its “good cause.” The atmosphere is decidedly
unique for a horse show, and perhaps it is so because of Menlo’s mission of philanthropy. As its formal name
suggests, the show donates all revenue to the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Over the course of
the show, Menlo has donated upwards of $3 million to the Vista Center.
Besides donating a large percentage of show revenues, Menlo holds a magnificent silent auction and dinner dance,
which follows the exciting Ryman Memorial Speed Jumper Class, another attribute that Chapman states is one of
the best parts of the show. These events not only promote camaraderie among the competitors, but also seem to
inextricably link them to the show and its philanthropic mission.
