RED SHIELD APPEAL
On 12 & 13 May a number of students from Cowra High volunteered to go doorknocking
in our
community to raise money for the Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal. These students were ~ Mitchell Allen, Isabella Allen, Emily Harris, Anna White, Dimas Bakini, Annastasia Francis, Ashleigh Francis, Elizabeth Wells, Vivienne Wells, Brody Farrell-Hutt, Dylan Oliver, Tom McNamara, Jasmine Taylor & Kayla Gorham. These students not only gave up their weekend and time after school, they also conducted themselves responsibly in our community and raised a significant amount of money for a worthy cause ~ $787 altogether.
Each student received a school Service Eagle & Bronze Eagle and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Salvation Army, as well as a voucher for McDonalds. All students are encouraged to participate in events such as this, the 40 Hour Famine & others, as not only are those students making a contribution, they are also engaging with and increasing awareness of important social issues in our community and wider world. Many thanks go to Lt Kim Gorringe and Lt Stephen Gorringe who provided valuable instructions and support for this effort.

WORK EXPERIENCE AT ORANGE SOUTHERN CROSS MEDIA STATION
During Week 9 of Term 2 I undertook work experience for one week at the Orange Southern Cross media station.
During my work experience I worked in many different areas including 105.9 starFM and 2GZ FM stations. I was able to work in the newsroom getting the latest updates and weather reports. I also got the chance to create advertisements in the TV editing area.
As well as working in the station I was able to go out and do an in-store promo and live broadcast with Chris & Browny from the starFM radio show in the Orange Mall Plaza. This was a great experience to not just see how things run in the station but also out with the community.
I received a compliment from Browny from 105.9 starFM. He said that “She was extremely helpful with tasks that were set for her and completed them with confidence. She also took part in an outdoor
broadcast where she
maintained the job of organising competition entries. She took part without hesitation and Nicki was an absolute pleasure to work with.”
I personally really enjoyed working at the Southern Cross media station ~ it was a great opportunity and something I will never forget.
