COWRA HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER CHS KNOCKOUT VOLLEYBALL

On Friday 18 May, the Cowra High School boys and girls volleyball team travelled to Bathurst for the CHS Knockout round robin competition.

The girls were ready for the competition after practising consistently throughout the year. The first game was against Forbes and they received an immediate boost to their confidence winning 2 sets - 0. Our girls were also amazed at the volleyball skills of our Japanese exchange student Hatsuho Kamata who served well with speed & accuracy throughout the day.

The second game was against the CHS Western Region Champions West Wyalong, who won in straight sets. The third game was won comfortably against Kandos High School 2 sets-0. While waiting for our final game against Oberon, the girls had a friendly set against our boys’ team ~ the girls demonstrated great team play to defeat the boys soundly! The final game was tight with Cowra winning in 3 sets against Oberon HS.

Thanks to all the girls who played with excellent sportsmanship and warmly welcomed Hatsuho into the team. Congratulations to Beth Moore (Captain), Stephanie Moore, Sarah Wilson, Melanie Savva, Caitlin Symons, Lauren Jones, Elizabeth Wells & Hatsuho Kamata.

The boys’ team consisted of Joel Causton, Luke Britton, Sam Downing, Jack Baker, Jyedn Murray, Dylan Gaudry, Nick Rowston & Dimas Bakini who had to play Forbes in the first round. The Forbes squad outclassed us with some good team work and attack over the net. Cowra boys then took on Narromine & Oberon, successfully beating them in close games. Again the Cowra girls took the boys team on, giving the boys an opportunity to redeem themselves from previous defeats. The girls managed to take the set against the boys again. It was good preparation for the boys playing at Camden. Let’s hope the boys can regather for the next hit out.

YEAR 7 INFORMATION EVENING ALGEBRA ~ A, B, C OF x, y, z

The Maths faculty will be running an information evening for parents/caregivers on the 19 July commencing at 7pm. During this session we will give you the opportunity to experience the algebra that their children will be learning in class.

Parent/caregivers need not have any background in Mathematics to be able to enjoy and learn from this workshop. It should enable parents to be more confident in Algebra so they will be able to support their children’s learning at home.

The evening will be a ‘hands on’ workshop in which you will have the opportunity to learn and practise the Algebra content and to ask questions.

We hope to make the evening both enjoyable & informative and would like as many parents/caregivers involved as possible. Students in Year 7 should have brought a note home already ~ remember to return this to the Maths Staffroom by 17 July.
