Tax File Number (TFN) The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) offers students aged 13 years or over the opportunity to apply for a TFN through the school. Students need a TFN for employment, applying for Centrelink benefits, opening a bank account or deferring university fees.
Applying for a TFN through school is easier because students do not need to show identifying documentation to the ATO. Students need to see Ms Klinger, the Careers Adviser, for an application form which can be filled in at home & returned to the school. The school will certify the application by cross checking against enrolment records and students will be sent their TFN to the postal address within 28 days of the application being received by the ATO.
