Postdoctoral Fellowships
OPPOR
for 2009-2010
TUNITIES
The Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) is soliciting applications
from statistical and mathematical scientists for up to seven postdoctoral positions, to begin in
September, 2009. Appointments, at extremely competitive salaries, will typically be for two years
and be made jointly between SAMSI and one of its Partners. Applicants should have received
(or expect to complete) a doctorate in 2006 or later. Members of under-represented groups are
particularly encouraged to apply.
SAMSI, located in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, is a partnership between the
National Science Foundation and Duke University, North Carolina State University, the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the National Institute of Statistical Sciences.
SAMSI is forging a synthesis of the statistical sciences and the applied mathematical sciences
with disciplinary science to confront the hardest and most important data- and model-driven
scientific challenges. See
www.samsi.info.
SAMSI programs soliciting postdoctoral candidates for the year 2009-10:
• Space-time Analysis for environmental mapping, epidemiology and climate change will
be focusing on the development of innovative spatial and temporal statistical and
mathematical theory and methodology that significantly impacts the three focus application
areas in the title.
• Stochastic Dynamics will address fundamental challenges at the interface of stochastics
and dynamical systems, including research in multi-scale and multi-physics computing,
stochastic modeling in biology, dynamic networks, and stochastic analysis in numerical
methods.
Postdoctoral Fellows will participate in one or more of these research programs, in collaboration
with statisticians, applied mathematicians and disciplinary scientists from universities, industry,
national laboratories and government agencies.
Criteria for selection include demonstrated research ability in statistical and/or applied
mathematical sciences, interest and (to a lesser degree) experience in the SAMSI program
areas and vision, and strength in computation and in verbal and written communication. The
deadline for full consideration of applications is January 1, 2009, although later applications will
be considered as resources permit. Postdoctoral appointments may be made at any time.
SAMSI accepts only electronic applications. Additional information and the electronic application
can be accessed at
www.samsi.info/opportunities/postdoc.shtml.
SAMSI is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer.
