What impressed you at this winter’s trade shows?
On the opposite page a handful of park owners answer just that, while
elsewhere in this issue you can read our honest assessment of IAAPA
Attractions Expo in Orlando. Many seemed to agree that this year’s show
was much quieter than usual.
If you didn’t make it, and I know people who didn’t for a variety of
reasons – ranging from the cost of travel to the fact that they’d already
been to EAS in Munich or recently become a father – then what you
missed more than anything was probably the networking.
There were not that many exciting new rides or products visible on the
show floor. But once you had a serious look at the booths and got talking
to the exhibitors, it seemed clear that we are going to see a lot more
multimedia attractions in the years to come, from rides incorporating
“augmented reality” to a number of decidedly 21st Century simulators.
New technology is also allowing suppliers to offer refined versions of
existing products, from LED lighting to battery-powered trains and people
movers, reducing energy consumption and running costs at a time when it
is badly needed.
Starting this issue, we intend to bring you more product features in
Park World, as we realise trade shows are no longer the only way to find
out what’s new. Then again, neither are trade magazines, so I’ll quit
while I’m ahead!
