Bonham Man Arrested for Theft of Livestock

BONHAM MAN WAS ARRESTED AT HIS RESIDENCE ON MARCH 30, AND CHARGED WITH THIRD degree felony theft of livestock, after writing worthless checks to purchase cattle. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger
Toney Hurley led the investigation. According to Hurley, the suspect, Timothy Randall Mayo, 45, of Bonham, wrote
a worthless check to the Sulphur Springs Livestock and Dairy Auction for cattle he purchased in February. After the arrest, Hurley took Mayo to the Bonham Police Department for a mag-
istrates hearing, held by Fannin County Justice of the Peace, Royce W. Smithey. Mayo was transferred to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was held on $40,000
bond for third degree felony theft of livestock. Additional charges are expected to be fi led in this case. TSCRA appreciates the Bonham Police Department and Hopkins County Jail for their assistance in this investigation.

TSCRA Operation Cow Thief Hotline Tip Assists in Arrest of Suspect

ARVELL GALLOWAY, 60, OF CARTHAGe, was arrested April 5 in Sandusky, Ohio, after TSCRA Special Ranger Larry Hand received an anonymous tip the day before
through the TSCRA Operation Cow Thief Hotline regarding where the suspect was located. The tip provided Hand with detailed information showing that the suspect was
living in Sandusky. Panola County Sheriff’s Offi ce Sgt. Jeff Ivy worked with Hand and Detective Sgt. Dana Newell of the Sandusky Police Department to locate and arrest Galloway. Sgt. Ivy called the Sandusky Police Department April 5 and asked them to assist
Texas authorities. Sgt. Newell arrested Galloway within 30 minutes of the request. Galloway was held in the Erie County Ohio Jail on a preset $25,000 bond await-
ing extradition. He was transferred to the Panola County Jail to post bond on the charge of theft of livestock of less than $100,000 with the likelihood of enhancement to a second-degree felony of exploitation of an elderly person. Authorities had searched for Galloway for approximately 3 years after he was ac-
cused of stealing 4 head of cattle from his employer, an elderly rancher in Carthage. The victim was away from his property in Carthage for 5 days, and after returning he realized that the cattle were missing from his herd. Hand helped the victim fi le a report with the Panola County Sheriff’s Department and TSCRA. Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake facilitated the transfer of Galloway on his
1,047-mile return to Texas from Ohio to face justice in the court system. The person who provided the tip through the Operation Cow Thief hotline will be compensated. “This suspect was arrested due to a tip from the TSCRA Operation Cow Thief
