er groups to gather information about how landowners have been treated in this process. Our leaders hear repeatedly from members who feel taken advantage of and helpless in the face of a condemning authority. One of TSCRA’s priorities going into the


2017 session of the Texas Legislature is to work for measures to protect the interests of private landowners. We need to know your experiences so useful solutions can be developed. Texas Wildlife Association sent a similar survey to its members and more land- owner groups may follow suit soon. Read more about the survey in Leslie Kinsel’s column on page 80. Kinsel


chairs the TSCRA Legislative and Tax Committee. In late March, she was invited to testify before the Senate State Affairs Committee on the issue of eminent domain. She shared her family’s experiences with the committee members and now shares them with our readers. If you would like to be more involved in the policy work of TSCRA,


then come to the Summer Meeting and the Policy Conference in the fall. The TSCRA Summer Meeting is next month, June 16 to 18 at La Torretta Lake Resort, Montgomery (tscra.org/summermeeting). Even though we will have a somewhat relaxed meeting schedule, all of the TSCRA stand- ing committees will meet. Since we had a change in the offi cer team at the 2016 Cattle Raisers Convention, we have a new set of committee chairs and vice chairs heading the summer committee meetings. Find details about the Summer Meeting on page 14. Policy discussions will continue at the TSCRA Policy Conference, Sept.


28 to 30, at the Sheraton Austin at the Capitol. This event is designed with a more aggressive meeting schedule. All TSCRA members are welcome to attend. Informed speakers on public policy issues are invited to educate the committees and committee members are allowed ample time to thor- oughly discuss the sometimes thorny issues. Since the Texas Legislature will meet just a few months after the Policy Conference, your participa- tion in this event is even more important. Look for the Eminent Domain Survey button at tscra.org.
