Delta adds a new LA-Beijing route
Delta Air Lines will launch a daily non-stop service between Los Angeles International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport in December. The first flight has been scheduled
for December 16, 2016, pending US Department of Transportation and Chinese government approval. The Los Angeles-Beijing market

BA spreads its wings further in Germany
British Airways (BA) is strengthening its German network and aircraft fleet at London City Airport this summer with two new routes and an additional Embraer 190 jet. Three-times-daily weekday flights will launch to both Berlin and Hamburg, which together with services to Dusseldorf and Frankfurt means the airline will operate more than 70 flights each week to Germany direct from City. The growth will be supported by an additional 98-seat aircraft, which will be the 20th Embraer to join the BA fleet at London City Airport.
Routes News bolsters team amid redesign
Routes News has appointed a new sales manager to coincide with the redesigned magazine. Chris Gascoine has taken up the role and brings with him more than seven years’ experience selling B2B travel advertising. Having started as interim sales manager in time to attend Routes Asia 2016, he now takes up the position full time and is attending Routes Europe 2016 in Kraków, Poland. TTG Media MD Daniel Pearce
The extra routes mean BA will have its busiest-ever summer at London City Airport where it will operate more than half the flights, despite speculation it might cut its operations in the face of a change in ownership and charges at the East London facility. Hamburg is currently served by
BA’s franchise partner SunAir but from May 8, 2016, it will take over the route using larger Saab 2000 aircraft, doubling the number of seats available. The Berlin route, serving Tegel
Airport, will be the airline’s first link to the German capital from London City Airport.

as Routes News undergoes a
redesign to meet the needs of the modern route development market. New sections include
focused reports on previous Routes events, a Hot Topic highlighting key issues, a Number Cruncher infographic and an increased focus on destinations. The magazine has been given a fresh look while retaining key
is already served on an up-to-three- times daily basis by Air China offering upwards of 1,850 seats a day on the city pair.
However, Delta believes the power of the Los Angeles market, its own network from Los Angeles International Airport and its onward offering from the Chinese capital through SkyTeam members China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines will help support this fourth daily rotation.
This will be Delta’s fifth daily non-stop flight to the Asia-Pacific region and will add to existing links to Shanghai,
Sydney and Tokyo; the latter being served by flights to both Haneda and Narita airports. The Shanghai service was only added in July 2015.
features including airline interviews and a guide for the upcoming Routes event. Editor Edward Robertson said:
“We know how important Routes News is to the industry so it is vital the redesigned magazine not only reflects the changing face of the route development market but also provides key information.” Routes director Katie Bland added: “I am delighted with both the new appointment of Chris and the redesigned magazine. Routes News is a vital part of the Routes events’ success and we look forward to the positive reception I feel both announcements will garner.”
