Beef Quality Assurance Proper Care of Skeletal Remains
Carcass disposal is sometimes a part of raising cattle. Dispose of a carcass to:
• protect public health and safety, • not create a nuisance, • prevent the spread of disease, • prevent adverse effects on water quality
Approved on-site methods of disposal include decomposition, burning, burial and composting. With natural decomposition, scavengers and insects will gen- erally clean up everything but the skeleton, which can be burned. Place the carcass on top of a brush pile, or build a brush pile over skeletal remains. When the brush pile is burned, the skeletal remains will burn.
