PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY FILE DC SERVO CONTROLLERS

Sprint Electric has extended its XLV range of drives with fast response DC motor speed controllers. Offered as a compact and easy to use DIN rail mounting package, these are designed

for use with permanent magnet brushed DC servo motors rated from four to 12 Amps. Latest additions to the miniature 200 XLV model are the 400 XLV model for motors rated up to four Amps, the 800 XLV for eight Amps, and the 1200 XLV for 12 Amps. Despite measuring just 60mm wide, 120mm high and 105mm deep for the 400 and 800 models, and 69mm wide for the 1200 model, the XLV is a four quadrant drive that can motor and brake in both directions of rotation, offering outstanding control of motor speed and torque, the company claims. Sprint also offers a wide range of DC motor control,

with over 150 models covering both one phase and three phase, regenerative and non-regenerative DC motor applications, together with field controllers, digital slip ring motor controllers and thyristor stack controllers.

Sprint Electric www.sprint-electric.com MODULAR SAFETY SYSTEMS

With manufacturers starting to exploit the advantages of Industry 4.0 and the capabilities of factory-wide communications, safety systems should match the production speeds and cost savings they achieve, says SICK. To help, the company has introduced the Flexi Loop, Flexi Link and Flexi Line multi-switch and multi-station options to the Flexi Soft plc safety controller modules. The Flexi family offers a modular approach to creating safety systems with operation up to SIL3 / PLe levels, allowing safe operation of elements including sensors, electromechanical, interlocking and non-contact switches, scanners, encoders and emergency command buttons. These can be integrated within a Flexi Link or Flexi Line system providing factory-wide control. The latest module is the Flexi Soft Drive Monitor,

which allows the connection of up to 12 encoders per single Flexi Soft system. This can provide safe monitoring of drives without integrated safety

PIEZO DRIVE FOR COORDINATED MOTION

Connecting to the Ensemble family of drives and controllers from Aerotech, the QLe panel-mount nanopositioning piezo drive enables coordinated motion between piezo stages and servo axes at higher rates, the company explains, making it suitable for applications ranging from demanding scientific research to advanced OEM machine systems. Features include a dual-core

456 MHz, double-precision, floating-point DSP, providing extreme processing power over applications including point-to- point motion, linear and circular interpolation, multi-axis error correction, and autofocusing. This also offers high-speed interrupts and data logging capabilities which provide a real-time link to external systems, and offers high-speed position latching capability and multi-axis position synchronized output (PSO) for generation of pulses based on actual position feedback. The QLe enables sub-nanometer

positioning resolution at high bandwidths,

features and can perform Safety Functions for drives according to IEC EN 61800-5-2, including and not limited to: safe speed monitoring (Safety Limited Speed - SLS), standstill monitoring (Safe Speed Monitoring - SSM) and many safe stop functions such as Safe Stop 2 - type 2 (SS2). Also available is the IP67-rated Flexi Loop, which has the capacity to cascade up to 32 safety sensors or switches on one loop and to create up to eight separate loops per single Flexi Soft system. It will provide up to 256 sensors on eight dual channel inputs, reducing the clutter and cost of traditional cable connections and, when you consider Flexi Link and Flexi Line, the possibilities are limitless, SICK explains. Further safety developments include the

incorporation of vision cameras into hazard protection installations; developments in safety laser scanners that are enabling adaptive field technology that provides ‘soft’ safety and warning zones for dangerous machinery; plus much more.

NEW RANGE OF ETHERNET SWITCHES & SUPPORTING SOFTWARE

Westermo has launched a range of new Ethernet switches and supporting software aimed at solving demanding networking problems. Four new layer-2 managed Ethernet switches have been added to the RedFox range. Designed for use in harsh environments and demanding Edge Network applications, the switches feature a wide operating temperature range and type testing for both industrial and rail trackside use. The devices offer a range of port options including 11 gigabit ports; and the two switches feature 11 and 19 port options. Two new rack mountable

and offers linearity of better than 0.01% over the full travel range in closed-loop mode. In addition to four optically- isolated digital inputs, two high-speed digital inputs, and four optically-isolated digital outputs, the Ensemble QLe is equipped with analogue inputs and outputs. For ultra-precise applications, it offers an 18-bit analogue input that can be programmatically configured to accept an external feedback sensor or position command. It also has one 20-bit analogue output that can be programmatically configured for position or voltage monitoring at very high resolutions. Ensemble software uses advanced

PID servo loops with feedforward and multiple integrators, coupled with eight programmable filters, to supply the user with all necessary tools needed to optimise motion performance, the company states.

www.aerotech.com ROBOTIC LOADING

FANUC has collaborated with Pacepacker Services to engineer a robotic pot swap tray loading system. The robotic pick and place unit combines FANUC’s LR Mate200iD robot with Pacepacker’s new Mixed Tray Loader (MTL) technology. The six-axis articulated arm of

the LR Mate200iD can tilt, twist and rotate single or multiple products with ease at speeds of up to 80 packs per minute. Combining this with a reach of up 900mm means the robot can even place products in deep trays or cases with lipped edges. In addition, the light ‘mini’ robot arm is human arm sized. FANUC expects dairy to be one of the first food industries to adopt the system.

versions of the RedFox switch, suitable for control room or cabinet installation, feature 27 ports and are available in AC and DC power variants. The company has also released version 1.3 of its state-of-the-art

WeConfig software, a Network Configuration Management tool that simplifies the configuration of complex resilient networks that typically may feature multiple rings, gigabit links and numerous devices. To achieve this WeConfig 1.3 features new wizards for quick and easy user-friendly configuration with global parameter settings and analyses port and path for best possible implementation of single or multiple rings, simple fast ring recovery and ring coupling.
