Much of the Conway Scenic yard had already succumbed to tree shadows by the time we arrived at 3:30 p.m., but the 1874 Victorian station was bathed in beautiful sunlight. was in the clear. Framed with a classic New England “highball” style signal, a classic railroading scene had unfolded before us. Many frames were exposed as the train was put away for the night. Facing a five-hour drive back to our hotel in Albany, N.Y., we decided to re- trace our steps through Crawford Notch and enjoy dinner at Fabyan Station. Over dinner we reflected on the beau- tiful weather we encountered as we ex- plored a section of railroad neither of us had chased before. It was the cap to a wonderful weekend of New England mountain railfanning.
