driving, we enjoyed a crackling fire and listened to the loons call from across the lake. The rest of the world seemed a mil- lion miles away. Morning came and we were trackside at North Conway. The Valley Train was preparing to depart for Conway, and we

discovered there was an old friend on the point. Conway Scenic EMD GP9 No. 1751 was purchased from New York’s Finger Lakes Railway in 2012. Still wearing its New York Central inspired lightning stripes, the unit has been relettered CON- WAY SCENIC. Quickly making friends with

two railfans from Massachusetts, we dis- cussed our strategy for the day. We set up in a farmer’s field to capture

the morning southbound before back- tracking north to follow the Notch Train. We caught up with the train at the Route 302 overpass just south of Glen.
