THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

MOXY: EXOTHERMIC BOWLING BALL 53 Hook 14 Length 14 Breakpoint Shape

Manufacturer’s Intent: “The Exothermic by Moxy Bowling Products is our first high-perfor- mance bowling ball,” says Moxy owner and CEO, Doug Davidson. “Our goal was to create a versatile bowling ball to suit many styles and lane condi- tions. The Exothermic uses a combination of addi- tives to create an extremely versatile [solid] cover- stock. The additives create less friction to produce hook, which easily projects the ball down the lane. This will save axis rotation and help create an exo- thermic reaction into the pins.”

Core: The Exothermic medium RG symmetric core has an RG of 2.539 and a differential of .050. We saw around 3 to 4 inches of flare.

Coverstock: The flash red and flame orange cover is sanded with a 500 SiaAir micro pad and

topped off with Royal Compound. The effective surface grit is 4460 and the RA is 3.39.

Overview: This first Moxy ball we’ve reviewed did not disappoint us. The Exothermic is smooth off the spot, which contributes to its versatility. Its strong arcing roll through the pindeck keeps the pins low for good carry. The higher oil volume of the Stone Street pattern didn’t give this ball too much trouble as it dug in and smoothed out the reaction for us. We crossed around 11 or 12 at the arrows, and got the ball to the 45-foot breakpoint around seven- or eight-board. We were pleasant- ly surprised that we could get in deeper on the lighter house pattern without losing much hitting power, which often happens with stronger roll- ing balls. On the USBC Open patterns, which we know are pretty flat, we were able to get lined

up playing 13 at the arrows out to eight-board at the 45-foot breakpoint. The predictable motion off the breakpoint made it easier to try to get to the pocket on this pattern. This predictability makes the Exothermic a great benchmark ball for reading any pattern in tournaments. Bowlers with higher rev rates especially will love this ball, because it is clean enough through the fronts and makes a strong arcing motion off the spot. This would be a great choice for mature bowlers finally moving from urethane or old resin balls to the new age, helping them take their game (and score) to the next level.
