MOAA Supports the Guard & Reserve

Legislation: MOAA’s Government Relations team has provided input to Congress to improve pending legisla- tion that will replace the age-60 reserve pension with a blend of a contributory 401(k)-style and reduced pension system.

Health care: MOAA fought successfully for TRICARE coverage for drilling and gray-area reserve retirees under the TRICARE Reserve Select and TRICARE Retired Re- serve programs. Our sponsored insurance supplements under MEDIPLUS® work with both programs.

Family support: MOAA offers family-specific publica- tions like Family Matters: A Personal Inventory for Peace of Mind, available for download at www.moaa.org/pub- lications or by calling MOAA’s Member Service Center, (800) 234-MOAA (6622). MOAA’s legislative team has pushed hard and won additional funding for family-support programs and inclu- sion of families in Yellow Ribbon reintegration initiatives. Check out MOAA’s Military Family Legislative Action Guide at www.moaa.org/legisactionguide. Spouses can obtain deeper insight on current is-

sues affecting military spouses and families through MOAA’s Making It in the MilLife® blog at www.moaa .org/spouseblog and by subscribing to MOAA’s month- ly Spouse E-news at www.moaa.org/email.

MOAA’s military spouse symposium, “Keeping a

Career on the Move®,” is open to spouses of all ranks and all components, free of charge. Learn more at www .moaa.org/spousesymposium.

Transition Center: MOAA provides career-transition assistance and offers presentations nationwide to cur- rently serving guardmembers and reservists and their families, highlighting self-marketing, résumé develop- ment, and salary negotiation. MOAA’s benefits experts also address health care benefits and Survivor Benefit Plan options for those in transition and assist with VA programs, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill. MOAA’s Transition Center offers publications including

the Guard and Reserve Retirement Checklist and Military Entitlements: Benefits for Guard and Reserve. All are avail- able for download at www.moaa.org/publications; for printed copies of selected titles call MOAA’s Member Ser- vice Center at (800) 234-MOAA (6622).

To learn more: MOAA’s Member Service Center helps resolve problems with military health care, insurance, mili- tary pay, and other military or VA programs. Member ser- vice representatives can connect members to MOAA staff who can give more in-depth information on any of the is- sues listed above. Call (800) 234-MOAA (6622) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time.
