HAPPENINGS Gloria Lee

"Four Seasons" July 18 & July 19

his summer Exclusive Collections Galleries will have the pleasure of showcasing Gloria Lee's latest botanical inspired paintings. Inspiration for Gloria Lee's choice of subject matter is a direct connection to her Dutch and Chinese ancestry. The symbology of flowers has been a source for many artists from both cultures throughout history. But as with any artist, his or her inspirations can often be felt in the work as opposed to being seen.

As a formally trained dancer, the joy of music and the interpretation of sound as color is felt in all of Gloria Lee's paintings. In watching her paint, one quickly sees how her brush and palette knife quietly and effortlessly move to a rhythm. These expressive lines, alongside her use of gold and silver leafing, play with light much like a ballet dancer's interpretation of classical choreography.

As in her recent quadriptych series The Seasons: Spring,

Summer, Autumn, Winter, Lee's work celebrates nature and our connection to time. Whether viewed together as a set in which the flowers symbolize each season, any of her works can also stand alone as powerful, vibrant, and expressive.

Lee's upcoming show promises a growing exploration of bold color palettes, exciting lines, and compositions defining her signature style. The demand for contemporary art that grounds the viewer while acknowledging a modern use of color is truly in harmony with Gloria Lee's artist
