Wine Corra Wines
After more than a quarter of a century of making wines for other Napa Valley vintners, winemaker Celia Welch has seen the success of founding her own brand and bringing her dreams to fruition. Corra Wines was first launched in 2004 and has continued to see growth in its 11-year span. It was not easy for Welch to find vineyard sources with top-quality fruit, a winery with a bit of space to spare for barrels, and a strong team of individuals with experience in different aspects of the wine business. The results of these efforts were tremendous, with well-received wines and a project that has lead to information and idea sharing for everyone involved.
Grapes from three prime vineyards in three of Napa
Valley’s premium growing regions, Oakville, Rutherford, and Pritchard Hill, combine to create the powerful yet elegant Corra Cabernet Sauvignon. Welch’s first interaction with grapes was under the
huge oak tree in her backyard in Southern Oregon, where she and her siblings plucked grape berries from stems for their father, an avid wine collector and home winemaker. Her parents included the family on trips through Napa and Sonoma in the early 60s, and like most visitors, she was entranced with the beauty of the rolling vineyards. “I wanted to make a wine that was unique. And one that combines the best aspects of a couple different areas in Napa Valley.” Each year only 400 cases are produced. Every year, within months, Corra Wines are completely sold-out, leaving wine connoisseurs thirsty for more. The exclusivity and limited availability of Corra Wines leave some waiting an entire year before they can obtain a case of the rich, red wines. Corra Wines does not currently offer any tours or tastings, but can be found in fine dining establishments in Southern California, New York, and Las Vegas.
