Join us in Macau!

From its Portuguese heritage to the glittering skyline, Macau offers a range of attractions for any Asia itinerary – and our next ttgluxury Experience is set to find out more!

I f we were to ask you which Asian

destination has 11 Michelin-starred restaurants, some of the most vibrant nightlife in the region and a fascinating Portuguese heritage could you guess where we mean? The answer? Macau. And in September, we

will be whisking five agents to find out more about this destination on the latest ttgluxury Experience. On the trip, you could be discovering the blend of East-meets-West culture in Macau, sampling incredible fine dining, trying stimulating activities and getting to know some of its luxurious hotels and spas. Located on the southern coast of China,

Macau is just 40 miles from Hong Kong and takes an hour to get to by high speed ferry or just 15 minutes by helicopter. One of the region’s fastest growing and most exciting destinations, its proximity to most Asian countries makes it a great part of a multi-centre itinerary for two or three nights. The Portuguese arrived in Macau in the 1500s

and it was a significant trading post on routes between Europe and Asia. In 1999 it became – like Hong Kong – a Special Administrative Region of China, but still pays homage to its European heritage. Among its greatest treasures is the Unesco World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Macau, made up of more than 20 buildings and monuments of Portuguese and Chinese origin. But there are plenty of modern attractions to

try too. At more than 330-metres high, the Macau Tower offers tremendous views across the Pearl River Delta and those with the nerve can take a Skywalk around the outside of the tower, do a mast climb or even bungy jump! As well as taking in this iconic landmark of Macau, agents on this four-night trip will get to visit Kai Kai and Xin Xin, the cuddly residents at the Giant Panda Pavilion.

Premium plans Macau is perfect for the luxury traveller, as 60% of its hotels are five-star, with most incorporating luxury spas. And yes, there are 11 Michelin- starred restaurants – two have three stars; two have two stars; and seven boast one star each. New hotels coming this year include the

world’s first all-suite Ritz-Carlton and the JW Marriott Hotel Macau, both part of the Galaxy Macau integrated resort.

On the trip, agents will enjoy two nights

staying at the JW Marriott in the heart of Cotai Macau. The hotel offers 1,015 sophisticated rooms and culinary experiences such as Man Ho, a contemporary and authentic Cantonese restaurant, as well as an elegant lobby lounge and an outdoor pool. Agents will also dine at the Ritz-Carlton, which is set within the top floors of Galaxy Macau. We will also spend two nights at the stylish MGM Macau, which soars 154 metres into the skyline. Inspired by the arts, every element of the hotel is infused with creativity and style and among its many distinguishing features is the European-inspired Grande Praça, housed under a stunning glass ceiling. The hotel also features the award-winning Six Senses Spa and eight signature restaurants and bars including the 1930s-inspired French brasserie Aux Beaux Arts and the Grand Imperial Court for Cantonese.

Getting to know Macau On the ttgluxury Experience, a guide will take us around the Historic Centre of Macau. We will also see the island of Coloane, with its small villages and beaches – and of course, the traditional Portuguese egg custard tart, a must-try at the iconic Lord Stow’s Bakery. We will also check out Taipa Village, a

traditional area of narrow streets, temples, squares and shophouses, where highlights include Food Street and the Taipa Houses Museum. In the St Lazarus district, we’ll discover shops and creative spaces, such as Macau Fashion Gallery and Tai Fong Tong Art House, set in a picturesque district dotted with Portuguese facades in pastel shades. Plus we will visit Pousada de Sao Tiago, a Portuguese boutique hotel overlooking the inner harbour and the river. At night, we will check out some of the dazzling nightlife of Macau, from cool bars to incredible glitzy casinos. And of course – agents on the trip will have the chance to sample Cathay Pacific’s award- winning service from London to Hong Kong and now also serving Manchester.
