Ahead of the 2015 general election, Universities UK is making the case for why any government should back universities with policies to support the future success of universities
T
o keep it simple, Universities UK has identified three priority
areas which it wants an incoming government to focus on. These are:
Research and innovation – making the case for closing the gap between the UK’s investment in research and innovation and that of its major competitors
International students and immigration – calling on government and universities to work together to atract qualified international students and staff to the UK
Student funding – highlighting the need to develop a sustainable student funding system.

Universities contribute £73bn to the UK economy annually
For every 100 jobs at universities, an additional 117 are created in the wider economy
More than 30 UK universities are working with Cancer Research UK on ways to fight the disease
Universities created over 3,500 graduate start-up companies in 2012–13 alone
One in four undergraduates study part-time, opening the door to rewarding careers and promotion opportunities for those already in work
Almost 33% of students volunteer in their local community, puting something back into the area where they live and study. UB
