New Products Sample Management System
SampleStore II SE is an extension of the SampleStore II automated storage solutions portfolio from Brooks Life Science Systems (Chelmsford, Mass.), which can manage a wide range of consumables. The modular system is designed for libraries of 50,000–300,000 1.4-mL tubes at temperatures of –20 °C to +20 °C, is scalable with expansion modules to meet future needs and can fit through a standard laboratory door. The intuitive
Strata user interface makes it easy to store and retrieve samples and enables comprehensive sample information management, scalability and integration with laboratory information management systems.
Fluorescence Lifetime Assay Package
Complete fluorescence lifetime (FLT) technology is available through an alliance that unites FLEXYTE FLT reagents and assays from Almac Group (Souderton, Pa.) and the ameon microplate reader from TTP Labtech (Cambridge, Mass.). FLEXYTE assays, which comprise easy-to-use
reagent chemistries and long-lifetime fluorophores, combine with ameon FLT reader technology to address many major therapeutic target classes including kinases, proteases, phosphatases, DUBs and an increasing number of epigenetic targets and protein– protein interactions (PPIs).
Compound Management Workstation
The Fluent Laboratory Automation Solution from Tecan (San Jose, Calif.) builds on the Fluent cell-based assay workstation and features hardware and software options that simplify and improve the productivity of compound management and assay plate-generation activities.
Suited to drug discovery laboratories and centralized compound library facilities, the compound management workstation offers a host of features that streamline activities such as daughter- plate generation, plate reformatting and hit picking. The workstation is for research use only within the U.S.A. and is not for clinical diagnostics.
Peristaltic Pumps High-Resolution BioAFM System
The BioScope Resolve high-resolution BioAFM System from Bruker (Billerica, Mass.) incorporates proprietary PeakForce Tapping technology to enable researchers to achieve high-resolution imaging and picoNewton-level force measurements on biological samples. The system permits the imaging and mechanical property mapping of the biological detail of cells, tissues and biomolecular structures that have never been observed with a bioAFM on an inverted optical microscope. The instrument offers complete synchronization with the top inverted optical microscope brands, and provides single-button imaging using proprietary ScanAsyst technology.
Watson-Marlow (Wilmington, Mass.) offers 120 cased peristaltic pumps, which are well-suited for single-use systems where no contamination is acceptable. The compact pumps are stackable for multiple feeds such as pH control, antifoam, nutrient and buffer addition. The pumps also find application in cases in which the validation of drug research experiments
demands accurate flow rate, easy monitoring of parameters and process control. Features include a 2000:1 speed range with accuracy of ±1% and a selection of USP Class VI tubes.
AMERICAN LABORATORY • 46 • MARCH 2015 Tool for Small-Volume Dissolution
The Mini HeightChek tool for small-volume dissolution (Distek, North Brunswick, N.J.) is a fixed 10-mm gauge that accurately sets the paddle or basket heights prior to using the company’s small-volume dissolution accessory. The tool addresses the increase in the utilization of small-volume (<200 mL) dissolution testing.
